Appeal for Support on Energy Conservation

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Thank you for your support and participation in the energy conservation and sustainability activities in the past years. In academic year 2016/17, more than 450 MWh energy (HK$0.55M) has been saved as compared with that of academic year 2015/16.

To strengthen our commitment, the College has signed up the following “Energy Saving Charter 2017 / 4Ts Charter” campaign, organized by the Environment Bureau and the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department.  We would like to call for your continuous support to:

Energy Saving Charter 2017

(a) maintain average indoor air temperature between 24-26 degree Celsius during the summer months of June to September in 2017 [1];
(b) switch off electrical appliances & systems when not in use and procure energy efficient electrical appliances & systems from June 2017 to May 2018[2]; and
(c) engage staff / students to adopt the above energy saving practices together.

4Ts Charter
(d) set energy saving target with a timeline [3];
(e) ensure transparency to track energy saving results [4]; and
(f) encourage inhabitants to work together on the above energy saving target.

[1] As you may be aware, the Working Group on Energy Conservation and Sustainability has been promoting initiatives under Green@HSMC since its formation in November 2015.  Among others, the indoor air temperature as set out under the Energy Saving Charter 2017 has been monitored and rectified by CDMO.

[2] With the assistance of ITSC, hibernation mode for staff computers and shutdown of public PCs on campus after prescribed idle periods have been implemented.

[3] For 4Ts Charter, we would like to start with targeting at 10% of energy reduction for Academic and Administration Building (Block N) by 2022, compared with 2016, alongside other HSMC’s energy-efficient green buildings for a greener campus; and

[4] The energy saving results will be published on the website in January of each year.

For more guidance of green actions, please refer to the attached leaflet and the Working Group’s website for your reference.

Let’s “Think Green‧Act Green at HSMC” !
